I work out of my home, which can be an isolating thing, and this is an amazing way to meet other women entrepreneurs so we can compare and contrast our business issues. I am just excited by the number of women in our community who are running their own businesses! -Sarah Zimmerman, saz communications, Terrace BC-

Growing up in an entrepreneurial family meant that it was only natural for Kathline Holmes to one day become an entrepreneur herself. When the timing was right, everything seemed to align itself and Holmes opened the doors to Gailforce Resources, offering human resources consulting, workplace and softskills training, e-learning, workplace document writing, e-career services, and coaching.
With her background and training in career consulting and management, Holmes has a unique mix of experience and skills that allow her to help her clients on a broad range of employment issues. In starting a business, Holmes says that she could better relate to her clients because she too was learning new skills.
“There are so many important components to running a business and each part needs attention. I had to learn when to reach out for the help of someone with stronger skills, when to find help and to understand that it’s okay not to be the best at every aspect of the business.”
Holmes notes that there have been key people in her life who have helped her get to where she is today.
“I’ve had a few mentors who have helped light my path by being an inspiration, guiding me to make the right decisions along the way, remaining objective when I may not have been able to, and by supporting me to remain strong when I least felt like it,” acknowledges Holmes. “You have to keep yourself surrounded by great people.”
By taking on the role of mentor with Women’s Enterprise Centre, Holmes will be giving back the many gifts she received from her mentors.
“A good mentor helps build you up while you develop and grow. They help steer you in the right direction without taking control for you and are a great resource personally and professionally,” says Holmes.
