Women's Enterprise Centre offers new series:
"Success Tips for Women Entrepreneurs"
This series, which will run throughout the year, will start with tips that will help a woman start a business then transform and grow from a one-person shop to something bigger. These articles will focus on the basic management strategies a woman in business needs to go to the next level.
Enjoy reading the next several issues of our eNews as we guide you through real life experiences and provide you with tips on starting, growing and succeeding in your business.
Success Tip #1:
Motivation and a game plan. The first steps for women in business.
If you’re a woman looking for the challenges a business can provide, conditions have never been better. BC is enjoying an economic boom and that creates all kinds of opportunity.
But, to start a business, the first thing you must establish are your personal priorities. And you need a game plan. What motivates you? Is it your passion about something in particular? Is it the income potential of a small business of your own? Or, are you simply after more job freedom? Understanding what it is you want from owning a business will guide your action.

Women in business share financing successes
In the next few issues of our eNews, we will shed some light on a number of the most commonly asked questions and concerns about obtaining business financing from Women’s Enterprise Centre. Our loan clients come from all over the province, and no two businesses are alike. We will share the stories of several women who have obtained financing for their business, and to de-mystify the process.
Question #1:
How can I get a loan if there isn't a Women's Enterprise office in the city that I live in?

Discover a marketing strategy for YOUR business!
When someone asks about your marketing strategy, do you describe your direct mail campaign, newspaper ads or the positive word-of-mouth you receive? All these are a part of marketing, but they are not STRATEGY. They are TACTICS. Tactics are only as effective as the strategy behind them. If you're going to spend money and time on tactics, you must first know WHY you are doing it and what really works to reach your best potential customers most effectively. Focused Marketing gets at the ‘why’ of marketing. This full day workshop will guide you through the process of building a sound marketing strategy and will help you:
- determine the best customers for your marketing efforts
- understand how to connect with those customers, both with a
message and the marketing tools they will find attractive
- match your marketing strategy to your own personal strengths
- discover how to translate your learning directly into a marketing
plan and budget for your business for the next 12 months
- network with other business women
The workshop includes: a Focused Marketing learning guide (retail value $59.95) and materials; working lunch along with morning and afternoon nutrition breaks; and opportunity to network with other businesses.

Creating Your Business Guide Coaching Sessions
Beginning January 2007 in Vancouver, Victoria and Toll-free across BC
Any woman entrepreneur can tell you that launching a business is not so much about start-up as it is about creation. A new business is an awful lot like an infant, and its mother is just as concerned about making sure her ‘baby’ has everything it needs to grow and succeed.
Women's Enterprise Centre is offering complimentary coaching sessions to support women as they complete the Creating Your Business learning guide. Face-to-face sessions are available in Vancouver and Victoria and telephone sessions are available for women around the province. Sessions will be held every two weeks and each session will focus on a different step in the Creating Your Business Guide. Sessions will offer guidance from a business advisor as well as peer support. For more information on these coaching sessions, a session schedule and to register, click here

Mentoring Eases the Transition to Self-employment
Mentoring programs for women entrepreneurs coming in March 2007
Whether they’re coming at it from employment, retirement, stay-at-home parenting or unemployment, starting a business can be a little intimidating for anyone. ‘Why?’, was the question posed recently to entrepreneurial women from across BC, who came together in seven cities to discuss the barriers they face when entering self-employment. Organized by Women’s Enterprise Centre, these groups explored the issues around women transitioning to entrepreneurship. Their candid disclosures will form the basis for a comprehensive mentoring program to be launched in March 2007.
